Intuitive painting is my way: no photo, no preparatory work. The colors and shapes appear as I paint and depend on my emotions, my experiences and my various encounters.
France Nadaud – painter
All her works are therefore unique!
Artistic painting, which has existed for several centuries, is a discipline that requires work but also technique. It is governed by certain principles and rules..
Who is France Nadaud?
France Nadaud has been painting since her childhood, inspired by her father, also a painter. She has been painting for 10 years, after several years as a decorator.
She has been a member of the Fréjus Art Trades circuit since 2012, which gives the public the opportunity to discover the vast universe of Art Trades through the setup of artists’ and craftsmen’s workshops.
France paints in her workshop located in the center of Fréjus* which is open to the public.

What are her painting techniques?
There is a great diversity in paintings (acrylic paint, oil paint, watercolor) and in painting techniques, such as Acrylic, Aerosol, Watercolor, Dripping, Diptych / Triptych, Gouache, Oil, Lacquer, Monochrome.
Like every painter, France tried several techniques before she was able to determine the one that allows her to express what she feels but also to express the message she wants to convey through her work.
Her favorite medium is acrylic!
This paint is in fact a resin which is neutral in color at the beginning before the addition of pigments to get a whole range of colors.
The acrylic technique is still very young! Indeed, it appeared only in the 60s in Europe. From a technical point of view, it is the most important innovation since oil painting in the 15th century.
Like other paints, acrylics are mainly composed of :
- pigments similar to those of oil paint, gouache or watercolor
- a binder that fixes the pigment on the support, binds the elements together and gives the acrylic paint its special texture.
Indeed, the specificity of acrylic lies in the nature of its binder, namely an emulsion of water and acrylic resin.
The main quality of acrylic paint is its docility: dilution with water, easy to prepare mixtures, ease of application, versatility of supports, low odor. It is very solid and indelible and also has the particularity of drying very quickly, in a few minutes, so that France can work on different layers.
These multiple advantages pushed artists to adopt this new form of painting. Among them are some pop artists like Roy Lichtenstein or Andy Warhol. The latter used acrylic for his iconic paintings « Campbell Soup Can ». There is also Bridget Riley, pioneer of optical art who uses acrylic paint and British artist David Hockney for his paintings of swimming pools, and many others.
Our artist also uses two different technical means by combining acrylic paint and posca. This mixed technique allows the work to stand out and highlight the shapes.
Posca is a water-based paint marker with color pigments that can be applied to any surface, resulting in an opaque and fluid paint.
On which supports does she work?
Our artist works with a brush or a knife and paints on a stretcher or on Canson 200 gr for the drawings.
The painting knife makes it possible to paint several successive layers without mixing the paint. The result is a beautiful « broken » color effect that is impossible to achieve with a simple brush.
It’s all in the flexibility of the gesture! It is a work that brings freedom and spontaneity to her painting, giving unexpected and captivating effects of texture.
